Well we're doing really well and sitting at $253 in cash going into tonight. Tomorrow is budget refill day so tonight the wife is going grocery shopping and taking our daughter for a haircut. The good thing about the cut is usually she goes to the same stylist as my wife does and it runs us $100. She is going to her friend's mom's hair salon this time and my wife says it'll probably run about $30-40 which is a huge relief for $10 haircut dad!
This time I think we'll refill the dollars right to $300 but after a full run at the grocery store and the haircut we'll probably be pulling out a couple hundred. We'll see though!

I'll keep you posted. I used to solely use the envelope system, but I found it too complicated because I ended up with too many envelopes and I'd always be shuffling money around in them. Drove me nuts. Your idea is a better way for me to spend cash only without having to keep such a tight rein on everything. Thanks for the idea--hope you don't mind having a shadow!

I did take full advantage of my $139 appointment by listening carefully to the advice about products and the application thereof, from the very skilled stylist. Even so, I would kind of like to point out for the record that we don't have any credit card debt and have a good-sized retirement account in place OR I don't think I'd have even considered the pricey haircut. I would have just gotten comfortable with wearing a hat until we were in better shape financially. But hey, that's just me.
